Activities

The thrust on academic excellence in the classroom has been accompanied by an effort to build up the Vidyalayas as co-educational residential institutions. The House System of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, functions as an effective instrument for the development of the personality of the students. It furthers team spirit, by involving students in a variety of co curricular and extra curricular activities. The inter house competitions, organisational responsibilities, games, sports & art in education activities help students to groom themselves into competent & self-confident individuals. The value of dignity of labour & concern for environment is sought to be incorporated by self help activities that are part & parcel of the daily schedule of all Vidyalayas. Teachers who stay in residence provide teaching help after class hours through remedial teaching sessions held in the afternoons. Teachers as House Masters or House Mistress maintain a close association with students and provide the necessary support to children.

Games & Sports

Games and Sports  are encouraged in JNVs to develop fitness, physical and neuromuscular skills  and to promote the spirit of cooperation and  sportsman.  Apart from  the same, young talents are identified at an early stage and are helped to excel in their chosen field by specialized coaching through PETs/SAI Coaches at selected venues.

Samiti organizes  school level, cluster level, regional level and national level competitions in sports and games every year.  Specialised  course like, Archery, Judo and Gymnastic are also encouraged in some of the JNVs situated in the tribal areas of the country  where the same are popular  sports.

Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti is a state under School Games Federation of India and the Navodaya National teams compete with other state teams under SGFI banner.  The progress made by Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti on sports  front is commendable.
